Physical fitness is so important to our health. People who are active are less likely to develop chronic diseases. What does it take to be fit? Movement. We all need to move our bodies, the movement that uses energy. We as people come in different sizes, ages and abilities. Picking the right movement is important so that we can be physically fit and avoid injury. We have included 5 tips that will help you benefit from physical activity.
1. Start Activities Slowly and Build Over Time
If you haven’t exercised in a while, then slowly build up slowly. Building momentum over time will avoid injuries. Take a couple of weeks, increase how often and how long you are active.

2. Get Your Heart Pumping
So that you gain maximum benefits, exercise about 2.5 hours a week. Start moderately and then build. Moderate means walking, and biking, swimming. Anything that you love doing that gets your heart pumping. Spread the exercise over the week, and do them 10 minutes at a time.

3. Build Healthy Bones
Do strength training activities a couple of times a week. Lifting weights, doing push-ups and sit-ups, working with resistance bands, or even gardening are activities that build strength.

4. Make Choices To Be Active
Have you ever heard the phrase that it’s better to do something than to do nothing at all? Everything you do overtime adds up! If you are having a lazy kind of a day, then take a walk instead of a run. But, if you are motivated, then take the stairs rather than the elevator. Park further away from your destination or walk instead of drive. Choices!

5. Mix It Up!
Try different activities to find out what you like the best. Examples are martial arts, dancing, biking, swimming. Yoga is an excellent exercise as you can start at a moderate level, begin with chair yoga, and then advance to something more physical. The most important mindset is to do what you love!
